2 Day Cabinet Painting Project
This project is from our recent Huntersville NC project. On this cabinet refinishing project, we degreased the cabinets because they were very greasy. We use natural products to degrease cabinets that we work. There are plenty of natural solutions that don’t require chemicals to clean your kitchen cabinets.
After we cleaned the cabinets, completely sanded all the wood and repaired and damages that would affect the finish product. Next, we primed the wood 2 times to give a solid foundation. We sanded after each coat of primer. We use a high end primer that will adhere to almost any surface that has been properly cleaned.
After we were satisfied with the primer and the thickness for a durable finish, we painted the kitchen cabinets and doors. We applied 3 coats of finish. We use a high end enamel for our finishes which naturally block stains and provide an easy to clean surface that will last for years.
One thing we always have to remind our clients is that a painted cabinet will usually take 21 days to cure out properly. So that means the homeowner can still use their cabinets, they are recommended not to clean the cabinets for 21 days. We prefer for our clients not to use their cabinet cabinets for at least 3 days, unless we use a lacquer finish.
Lacquer finished cabinets give immediate access and is the most durable finish that we offer. Lacquer is durable and can be cleaned within 24 hours. Lacquer cracks over time do foundation settling and extreme temperatures from hot to cold in a short period of time.
Other than extreme temperature and foundation settling, lacquer is the most durable finish and they are easy to touch up. You can use light chemicals to clean your cabinets if you need too but usually if you wipe your cabinets down often you won’t need any chemicals. Clean wet rags would be all that you need.
