The more painters I speak with, tell me that they use ProClassic urethane paint by Sherwin Williams.  ProClassic is a trim paint.  Trim paints are made for trim and doors, not for cabinets.  Kitchen cabinets need at minimum  an enamel coating.  ProClassics give great hard finish for trim and maybe for light use cabinets.

Trim paint isn’t made for medium to heavy contact.  Doors and baseboards don’t get a lot of hard abuse like cabinets.  Cabinets get beat up by forks, spoons, knives, plates, cups and etc.  Dish banging against trim paint and doors would fail pretty quickly.  ProClassic paint shouldn’t be used for kitchen cabinets.  Any painter that you interview shouldn’t suggest using proclassic.  ProClassic for cabinets is an unprofessional approach to cabinet painting.  A beginning painter can get ProClassic paint to level out fairly easy.  Cabinet paint that a professional uses to get the durability that homeowners should expect for their cabinets.  We use cabinet painters and we wrote an article so far giving a brieft description of Benjamin Moore Scuff X which is Ben Moore comparison to Sherwin Williams Precatalyze epoxy coatings.  We also wrote a post on Emerald Urethane Alkyd Acrylic coatings.  Emerald is pretty much a better version of ProClassics but still drops the ball in the kitchen cabinet arena.
